The idea of making an energy matrix came about because of the amount of energy each home uses and the global problems (pollution, health, temperature change, energy costs, etc…) associated with those homes. We saw the fact that there is a problem and wanted to make a guide to help people, by showing them that there are solutions available to them now. The energy matrix started with four areas of a residential building (Structure, Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC, and Plumbing). Then an alternative energy report with a focus on different renewable energies and tax credits was added. The final section deals with two companies that make systems available to the market, making it possible to create energy for every day use without using fossil fuels.

The main focus of the energy matrix is to show homeowners and homebuilders ways to reduce their carbon footprint while saving money and the environment at the same time. The energy matrix is a detailed guide to help people make a difference by conserving energy without changing their daily habits.
